I will admit it, I am a hopeless romantic. I love a good romance movie or even a cheesey one. I try to act tough when I see two people kissing or sharing a moment. I mainly do that because I wish it was me. I remain hopeful that the one I am meant to be with will come into my life soon.
There is nothing I love more than a great love song. The song can be about love found or even love lost. I recently came upon a song that I think is one of the most beautifully written love songs of all time. “Grow Old With Me” originally written and sung by John Lennon is that song about his love for Yoko Ono. It appear on the 1984 Milk and Honey album. The version of this song that I absolutely love remains close to John Lennon’s version. Mary Chapin Carpenter’s haunting voice gives such beauty to this song.
If I ever get married or I mean when I get married, I would love to have this song part of my wedding. My first choice would be to have someone sing it as I walk down the aisle or the first dance with my beloved. No matter what role it plays, it will play one.
Just read these lyrics and you will see the simple beauty of this song:
Grow Old With Me
Grow old along with me
The best is yet to be
When our time has come
We will be as one
God bless our love
God bless our love
Grow old along with me
Two branches of one tree
Face the setting sun
When the day is done
God bless our love
God bless our love
Spending our lives together
Man and wife together
World without end
World without end
Grow old along with me
Whatever fate decrees
We will see it through
For our love is true
God bless our love
God bless our love
